Rockstar – Bollywood, 2011

Another Bollywood film from year 2011, which is an excellent mix of East and West, India and Europe, more specifically Czechs, is the movie Rock Star with awarded Ranbir Kapoor in the leading role. A. R. Rahman has once again composed few musical beads, which are to be heard in this film. Jo bhi main sang by Mohit Chauhan could even be the best movie song from the year 2011. Another good option is Kun Faaya Kun. The award-winning Rockstar definitely requires english subtitles to open up to the foreign viewer the best way possible, but even then one might feel puzzled. So another watching might be needed and this movie can surely take it. The film is ideal for people interested in the life of artists, rock stars and groupies, but also for those, who once dreamt of being a rockstar. Four stars for the movie Rock Star, 4/5. I hope to see this one in a Finnish movie theatre.

Ra.One – Bollywood, 2011

Ra.One has finally come out in DVD. If you want to see Shah Rukh Khan with blue eyes, then I recommend to see this movie. – Scifi-movies are usually not my cup of tea, but this one I was able to watch, thanks to the clever story and excellent music and dance. Three and a half stars for Ra.One, 3,5 / 5.

Dostana – Bollywood, 2008

A romantic comedy totally shot in America. What makes it interesting, is that Abhishek and John are acting to be gays, which is very unusual types of Bollywood. This film offers plenty of pleasure for the eye for the female viewers, otherwise, nothing much. Two stars for the film Dostana.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – Bollywood, 2011

Zindagi na milegi dobara (“You will not get to live the life twice”) is a Bollywood-movie, mainly shot in Spain. It’s a story about 3 friends travelling together after many years of break from each other. The movie is starring Abhay Deol (Oye Lucky Lucky Oye! – 3 stars), Hrithik Roshan (Dhoom 2 – 2 1/2 stars), Farhan Akhtar (Luck by Chance – 4 stars) and Katrina Kaif (Raajneeti – 4 stars). In addition to a comfortable three-hour film the movie offers a couple of profound laughs, of which the first one does not seem to be ending only. Couple of eyewettings are also to be expected, especially in the parachuting scene, which I think was the best scene of this movie, superb. Zindagi na milegi dobara is ideal to be seen on a large screen because of its gorgeous diving-, parachuting- and bullrunning scenes, and the movie is part of the ongoing Love & Anarchy film festival 2011 in Helsinki theathers. Three and a half stars in theatre, 4 stars in dvd.

Dhoom 2 – Bollywood, 2006

Fast action film, with some parts shot in Rio de Janeiro, and in which Hrithik Roshan charms in one of the main roles along with Aishwarya Rai and Amitabh Bachchan. In general they say that the movie sequels are always inferior to their first ones, but this does not apply to the Dhoom 2’s case, since it seems to be better than the movie Dhoom, which was made in 2004. Two and a half stars for Dhoom 2.

Veer – Bollywood, 2010

Powerful romantic lovestory written and acted by Salman Khan. If India’s royal history fascinates your senses, then this is a good choice for your eyes. Three and a half stars for the Indian film Veer. ***½

Taxi No. 9211 – Bollywood, 2006

The good music of the movie better than the movie itself. Film shot in Mumbai. Two and a half stars.

Meenaxi: Tale of three cities – Bollywood, 2004

This movie is directed by the Indian artist MF Husain, who passed away just recently. Unfortunately this movie as an Indian art-film does not meet my expectations. Two stars.

A thought-provoking comedy of Osama bin Laden’s double-creature. Tere Bin Laden gets my one and a half stars.

Woh Lamhe – Bollywood, 2006

During the intermission of the stunning Roger Waters The Wall Live -concert, the audience was being delighted by hindipop also, and with a tune from the song Woh Lamhe. The movie Woh Lamhe from 2006 is itself worth watching several times and gets five stars from me. It is starring Shiney Ahuja in the main role, about whom I mentioned in an earlier post in this blog.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam – Bollywood, 1999

Visually sparkling Indianromantic three hour, preceding the movie Devdas. The end result of this movie could not be guessed in advance, although one might have should. Hum dil de chuke sanam, three and a half stars movie.

Housefull – Bollywood, 2010

Road, movie – Bollywood, 2009

If you get your hands on Dev Benegals Road, movie, I recommend to watch it! Now there’s a recent five-star Bollywood-film (lasting only a Western one and a half hours). Let’s hope this Abhay Deols movie comes, for example, to Love and Anarchy – film festival to Helsinki – since Sodankylä we might have to wait. And let’s hope, that one day, we will see it from the Finnish television.
