The Zoologischer Garten Berlin is a nice green area in the middle of the concrete jungle of Berlin and it is within a good access by public transport.
Here’s five more reasons to visit the Berlin Zoo
If you’re living in the Nordic countries and you’d like to see a real Asian elephant without traveling to India, you will find it surprisingly near. From the Berlin Zoo.
2. If you’re traveling to Berlin with kids, then the Zoologischer Garden Berlin will be guaranteed to give a lot more rewarding experience than, for example, the Berlin Wall.
3. The trained sea lions of the Berlin Zoo provide an action-packed show which will amaze you with the wisdom and learning ability of the animal.
4. If you want to try what it feels like to look at the hippopotamus eye to eye, even that can be done in the Berlin Zoo.
5. And yet, if you want to see the real giraffe, zebra or rhino without traveling to Africa, these animals can be found from the Zoologischer Garden Berlin, which Wikipedia says to be one of the largest zoos in the world and the largest in terms of animal species.
A big moose was guarding the main entrance, bringing the Scandinavian feel to the guest right from the beginning.
The room I got was ok size for a short visit and it was having big windows, from the floor to the ceiling. The window offered a nice view outside, though there was not much to see except buildings.
In-between the bathroom and the bedroom there was an exceptional glass window decorated with Scandinavian birch leaves. The window was right next to your bathtub, but you could not see outside clearly.
What I loved the most about this hotel, in addition to its central location in Berlin, near the public transport, were the mornings. The morning buffet was one the best I’ve ever had – There were plenty of options for people eating gluten-free and organic food.
Nice interior detail was the clock in the restaurant, which was actually a tv showing videoart of time passing by. What a lovely idea to have art in the morning together with your lovely breakfast.
The restaurants in Hotel Scandic Potsdamer Platz were neat and clean and simply elegant in a Scandinavian way. Coming from Finland, it all felt familiar to me. Over all I had nothing to complain during my stay in this hotel, so if you’re after a nice hotel experience in Berlin, this is one option.
The first time I travelled Berlin was in 2015 and I immediately fancied the Berlin-Tegel airport. The easiness of traveling onwards from there is worth mentioning. Had read a lot of positive reviews about Pergamon museum and because of that I felt a little disappointed after seeing the exhibition inside the museum. I would myself recommend that museum only to people unfamiliar with the East. Otherwise the museum did not have much new or exciting to see, at least in 2015. Especially if you’ve travelled in India
Whereas the Neues Museum in the Berlin Museum Island offered a very interesting and comprehensive view to the past of the humankind. The exhibition was in a way amazing and inspiring. It would be worth visiting there even without the famous Nefertiti, which you were not allowed to photograph.
Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin was a tiny part of our history commercialized well into a modern day use. It was used as a place to take selfies with the “soldiers” from the past. I think this place is worth seeing if you’re into photography. It is also brilliant advertisement for the Mc Donald’s restaurant right next to it. You might even wanna have a bite of a hamburger with some history alongside.
Branderburg Gate in Berlin did not startle me, but the Holocaust Memorial I would recommend for photographers and those travellers interested in history. That impressive but yet modest looking memorial can make you very serious. Another similar grave sight is the Topography of Terror.
Berlin Zoo makes it easy to take a taxi to a jungle. All the monkeys, elephants and giraffes are right there in the middle of the city, with a skyscraper in the background. I would recommend this zoo experience to all the families with young kids visiting Berlin. One can get to the zoo easily with the public transport.
In the end, the Berlin TV tower (Fernsehturm) and Panoramapunkt will give you a very nice views above the whole city of Berlin.
See them and a lot more from the video Best of Berlin below –
And last but not least – Do not forget to visit the Art Market, when in Berlin.
