Ähtäri Zoo has been one of Finland’s most cherished animal parks for decades, attracting visitors from all over the country and abroad. It is famous for its tranquil forest trails, natural habitats, and iconic Nordic species, and the zoo offers a glimpse into Finland’s wilderness life at its finest. In 2025, Ähtäri remains a symbol of care for nature and wildlife — even as it faces a new and challenging chapter in its history. Watch my video of the lovely tour in Ähtäri Zoo in summer 2025

Ähtäri Zoo tour in 2025

Join me for a tour in Ähtäri Zoo in summer 2025 – it is one of Finland’s most beloved wildlife destinations!
Located in the heart of natural Lakeland Finland, Ähtäri Zoo has long been admired for its serene setting, where visitors can see animals in spacious enclosures surrounded by native forests and lakes. The experience feels more like a nature walk than a zoo visit — a place where bears, otters, lynxes, and countless birds coexist peacefully in their natural environment.

For decades, families have come here to enjoy the beauty of Finnish wildlife, from playful otters in their ponds to powerful brown bears exploring the forest. The zoo has also played an important role in wildlife conservation and environmental education, inspiring generations to care for animals and nature.

However, in 2025, Ähtäri Zoo entered a period of transition after being filed for bankruptcy. During this time, the animals’ well-being is being carefully maintained by the non-profit association Vieraile ja Välität ry. This organization has stepped in to ensure that every animal continues to receive proper food, medical care, and safe living conditions while a new owner for the zoo is being sought.

Even though the park is temporarily closed to the public, it remains a place of great emotional and ecological value. The animals continue their daily routines, cared for by dedicated professionals who rely on public support to maintain operations.

At this crucial moment, your help can make a real difference. By donating, you directly support the ongoing care of Finland’s native wildlife in Ähtäri. Every contribution, large or small, helps cover essential needs such as food, veterinary services, and habitat maintenance.
