The search for the best Indian restaurant in Europe was on hold for years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, before the pandemic, there were many incredible Indian restaurants that offered delicious and authentic dishes to their customers. In this article, I will take a look at some of the top Indian restaurants in Europe before 2020, before the Corona hit.

Finland should have definitely been included in the top 5, but unfortunately, one of the best Indian restaurants in Helsinki, the India House, seems to have ceased its operations. This is just one example of many Indian restaurants in Helsinki that have closed down in recent years, which is really sad. Even the South Indian restaurant disappeared from Helsinki centre.

Italy, known for its delicious pizzas, and Latvia, known for its cafes, did not make it to this list, but the video below highlights some of the best Indian restaurants in Europe. The criteria for this list was not based on the appearance of the restaurant, but rather the taste of the delicious Indian vegetarian food that they serve.

Over the years, I have written many blog posts and videos about Indian restaurants in Europe, both in Finnish and English, to inspire foodies who are traveling. Many of these Indian restaurants, such as Golden Tikka, Monal, Mr. India, Maharadscha, and Shiva, have also been included in my ever-growing online ebook, INDIVUE – Trip to Europe, which is also published in Finnish language. This ebook is a must-read for anyone who loves Indian food and wants to experience the best of what Europe has to offer.

I hope that all of these amazing Indian restaurants in Europe have managed to survive the pandemic and are still delighting their customers with their delicious food. The video below is a great resource for those looking to experience the best of Indian cuisine in Europe.

Maharadscha (Berlin, Germany)

Maharadscha, located in the outskirts of Berlin, is a charming Indian restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience. The restaurant boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere, with traditional Indian decor that transports you to the vibrant culture of India.

Upon entering, you are greeted by friendly staff who will guide you to your table, which is set against a backdrop of vibrant, richly colored walls, intricate carvings, and soft lighting. The menu features a wide range of authentic Indian dishes, including tandoori chicken, butter chicken, mutton vindaloo, and biryani. Each dish is cooked to perfection, with the right balance of spices and flavors, ensuring that each bite is a taste explosion.

I don’t eat chicken or meat, but I’ve heard that one of the standout dishes at Maharadscha is the tandoori chicken, which is marinated in a blend of yogurt and spices, before being roasted in a tandoor oven. The result is succulent, juicy chicken with a slight char that is both spicy and sweet. The butter chicken, another popular dish, is a creamy, tomato-based sauce that is simmered with tender chunks of chicken. The dish is usually served with steaming basmati rice and freshly baked naan bread, making it a complete meal.

I personally enjoyed their paneer dish in the restaurant Maharadscha and all I can say is that the restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who loves Indian cuisine. The food is authentic, the atmosphere is little precious and inviting, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Whether you are a seasoned Indian food lover or trying Indian cuisine for the first time, Maharadscha is the perfect place to indulge your senses and experience the flavors of India. So, if you are in Berlin, be sure to stop by and savor the flavors of India at Maharadscha, although is is a bit far from the centre.
