Beaches in Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura is often called the “beach island” of the Canaries, and for a good reason. Here’s some of its best beaches.
- Corralejo Natural Park
Located in the north, this area features vast sand dunes and crystal-clear water. It is one of the most photogenic places on the island and perfect for sunrise or sunset shoots.
- Sotavento Beach
Famous for its shallow lagoons and strong winds, this is the hotspot for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Sotavento Beach is located on the southeastern coast of Fuerteventura and it is a long stretch of coastline (around 9 km) that includes several sections. It lies between Costa Calma and Morro Jable, forming one of the most iconic coastal landscapes in the Canary Islands. The distance between Esquinzo and Sotavento Beach depends slightly on which part of Sotavento you’re heading. Approximate Distance 25–35 km and drive time: about 25–35 minutes.
How to Get to Sotavento Beach
- By car: About 1 hour from the airport (Puerto del Rosario)
- By bus: Limited connections; car rental is recommended
- Cofete Beach
Wild, remote, and dramatic. This beach offers a completely different experience, surrounded by mountains and untouched nature.
- El Cotillo Lagoons
Calm, turquoise pools ideal for swimming and relaxing. A great location for couples and slower travel content.
