I recently visited the Greek restaurant Papa Andreas near Erottaja in Helsinki, and the atmosphere genuinely felt as if I had briefly traveled somewhere far away — perhaps even to Greece itself, although I have never actually been there. The restaurant managed to create a warm Mediterranean feeling through its calm ambiance, earthy interior colors, and intimate dining space.
One of the details that stayed in my mind was the combination of Greek music playing softly in the background together with a glass of white wine. The wine was made from indigenous grapes originating from the island of Santorini, famous for its volcanic landscape. Knowing the volcanic background of the wine somehow added an extra layer to the experience.
The oven potatoes and vegetables tasted surprisingly similar to good quality frozen oven vegetables from a supermarket, so they were not the highlight of the meal. However, the chicken skewer served with tzatziki and the Santorini white wine was excellent. The wine pairing worked beautifully with the food. The serving size of my wine was only 12 cl, and it was just enough alongside the meal.

The restaurant itself was small and intimate in a very pleasant way. It felt like a place where it is equally comfortable to dine alone as with company. The service was professional, calm, and genuinely welcoming.
For dessert, I chose a decaffeinated coffee because it was already around nine in the evening. I had it with a gluten-free chocolate cake. The cake was decent, although quite sweet for my taste. The decaf coffee, however, was excellent. It had a comforting atmosphere that somehow reminded me of coffee enjoyed at a summer cottage in Finland — simple, warm, and peaceful.
Overall, Papa Andreas offered a relaxing and atmospheric dining experience in central Helsinki. While not every detail of the food was exceptional, the atmosphere, wine, service, and overall feeling made the evening memorable and I could go there again.
